THE current lockdown, which has affected film production works, was no hindrance for local punk rock outfit Trophy Knives, which recently shared an animated music video for their acoustic track titled 'Act 1: The Acknowledgement'.
Taken off their forthcoming full-length album 'Look The Other Way', the video clip was made available for viewing on YouTube on July 23.
The band's frontman, Vinesh Muniandy, said Trophy Knives had other plans to come up with a music video for the track, but movement restrictions had prevented it from materialisng.
“When the lockdown was announced in May, it became quite apparent to us that we would not be able to shoot our proposed music videos at least for the next couple of months, so we decided to do something we’ve never done before, which is to produce an animated video instead," said frontman Vinesh Muniandy in a press release.
Vinesh said the animated video clip was created by Zulhemi Zainuddin and produced by Azizulhakim Salleh of Fracas Works, and is a collaboration with local arts bodies Cendana Malaysia, Penjana, and MyCreative Ventures.
The video was also the brainchild of Fracas Works, which developed the concept and theme over several weeks, Vinesh said, adding the band "couldn't be happier" with the final product.

"Without giving too much away, this song nails the current state of our country and how helpless most of us feel at the moment, the music video accurately articulates the fact that it only takes one person to change the world and change starts within us," Vinesh added.
"It’s been absolutely beautiful to see how many people are taking matters into their own hands by providing aid to those in need which exemplifies the fact that community is everything."
Unlike their other songs, 'Act 1: The Acknowledgement' is a departure from their short, fast and loud punk sound, replacing shrilling screams and pummeling drums with melodic vocals and acoustic guitar riffs.
However, the band remains true to their politics by touching on social issues such as racism and sexism.
In March, Trophy Knives launched a fiery music video for their song ‘Nauseous’, while the latest release marks their 11th music video so far.
With the lockdowns showing no end in sight, the band have yet to announce a release date for the upcoming full-length release, although they began teasing 'Look The Other Way' by releasing five songs from the upcoming album.
Trophy Knives, which also consists of guitarist Sani Khalid, drummer Syamir Ali, and drummer Ryan Lee Bhaskaran (dram) made their debut in June 2017 with a self-titled EP, followed by their second EP ‘Turmoil’ in April 2018. – The Vibes, August 1, 2021
