LOCATED in the real-life Spaulding Square, Los Angeles, is the fictional 1428 Elm Street, which served as the exterior for the main character’s house in the 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The house has served as a beloved sightseeing stop for horror fans since it first appeared in the film, as well as the 1985 sequel A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.

The murderous Freddy Krueger visited the home through the dreams of the movie series’ teenagers, torturing and killing them in their sleep.

Horror fans (or those in need of expensive housing) have to act fast, as the US$3.25 million (RM13.5 million). Offers for the iconic home are due by midnight on Halloween.

Built in 1919, the two-story Dutch Colonial home features three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms in 2,700 square feet.

In addition to its other amenities, it comes with a completely private backyard with manicured trees, a swimming pool and a guesthouse, which has its own kitchen, bathroom and a pergola-covered patio.

The façade still looks like how it did in the movie, with green shingles still at the top of the portico entry.

Despite being all the way in California, the film took place in the fictional town of Springwood, Ohio that’s more towards the middle of the United States. American horror movies tend to revolve around the fear of the unknown in smaller communities away from the big cities.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was the first installment in the franchise that went on to have a further six sequels. The film also marked the beginning of Johnny Depp’s movie career. – The Vibes, October 22, 2021
