ACTOR Kal Penn revealed that he is engaged to his long-time partner in an interview on Sunday. The pair have been together for 11 years. This was the first time the Indian American actor came out publicly, reported Huffpost.

Popularly known for his roles in 'Harold & Kumar' and 'House', Penn is promoting his new memoir 'You Can't Be Serious'.

He met his partner Josh while he was working for the Obama administration over a decade ago.

“I discovered my own sexuality relatively late in life compared to many other people,” Penn told People.” “There’s no timeline on this stuff. People figure their s**t out at different times in their lives, so I’m glad I did when I did.”

Penn added that he “shared things with my parents and close friends first” and was "very fortunate" to have a supportive family.

“I know this sounds jokey, but it’s true: When you’ve already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy,” he said.

“They’re just like, ‘Yeah, okay.’ I felt very supported by everyone. That’s a wonderful thing. I know everybody has different experiences with that and so I definitely feel very fortunate.”

While readers are learning of his “authentic” self, he points out that he’s always been “very public with everybody I’ve personally interacted with.”

Penn says they are still planning the big day, but he's pushing for a “big ass Indian wedding.”

“Obviously I am engaged to a man and our families will be there for the wedding. The big disagreement now is whether it’s a huge wedding or a tiny wedding,” he said.

“Josh [has said], ‘Or we could just do quick 20-minute thing with our families and that’s it.’ So we have to meet halfway in the middle.”

'You Can’t Be Serious' was released on Monday. – The Vibes, November 2, 2021
