Photo of the Week: Is the naked self a thing to be viewed through a lens of obscenity? – Faizal Hussin

What is obscenity and where does the sense of judgement around it come from?

SELF reflection is what I felt when I took this photo. Before this photo was taken, we talked about prejudice, ways of thinking, and spirituality. Most of us seem to feel holier than thou when talking about other people. And this becomes an indulgent thing for us, when in fact, it is not a healthy way of thinking as a human being.

To me, what we see or observe is a reflection of ourselves. Our bodies are beautifully designed – pornography is born from our own minds. If we think of the obscene, it is obscenity that manifests within ourselves. Is it not obscene that when you complete all your religious rituals, that you feel better than others and are in a position to judge?

I see Namrom as a human being as well as a performer. He is not caught up in the sensations of the roles he embodies, like in Suamimu Suamiku Jua, which I feel is more lurid than his naked self. Trading a fantasy of chastity as a ‘product’ without any constructive culture and thinking and we all accept as truth.

– The Vibes, January 9, 2022
