KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian rock band Search recently announced their upcoming concert, happening on June 11 at the Campbell Complex rooftop, located along Jalan Dang Wangi.

The band also introduced its latest frontman, Indonesian pop rock singer Denden Gonjalez, who will be making his debut performance with the legendary band during the expected 2-hour long ‘Search Rocking On Rooftop’ show.

This comes after former lead singer Amy Search announced his exit from the band two years ago in 2020.

In a press conference yesterday, guitarist Nordin Mohd Taib aka Din Search, said fans can expect the concert to feature an elevated experience, “… especially when it comes to the sound, lighting, stage design down to the selection of songs, which is between 14 to 17”.

“We have an extensive list of it (songs) and our fans have requested us to play all kinds. Made sure some of the chosen songs are ones rarely played in our previous shows. It is an added factor that we intentionally put into the show to give it a different feel.

“This is because we also aim to push for songs that have the potential that would equally appeal to audiences abroad such as Indonesia for instance,” he added.

The tracks are predominantly taken from Search’s sixth album, Rampage, which was released in 1992.

“This album had Yan (Amran Marsiman) on the bass, which he will also be part of the showcase together with our new drummer Minn and of course Kid on the guitar,” shared Noordin.

When asked if Din’s band felt intimidated that the concert will be hosted during the same month as Amy Search’s separate showcase, titled ‘Konsert Endemik’, which equally claims to be a concert for Search fans with Nasir Search, Man Keedal and Hillary Ang joining the former frontman, he said: “As I have said in many interviews before, we have no issues with it or have time to be worrying about petty concerns.”

“For us at least, we still have a right to be performing as Search. In fact, none of the original members here today ever announced our exit from the band so technically that alone should signify something,” he added.

Denden Gonjalez shared he has enjoyed his experience so far collaborating in the studio with Search.

“I grew up knowing their songs and having been given this opportunity to perform together is exciting. I am also thrilled to get to know the Malaysian audience more,” he said.

“My biggest challenge so far is having to live up to the expectations of such a spot, as my style is more slow rock.

“But rest assured fans would not be disappointed because the chemistry we have been creatively engaging in so far is great,” added Denden.

‘Search Rocking On Rooftop’ will be held on June 11, 9pm at Campbel Complex Kuala Lumpur. The location was a historic base where rock music flourished during the 80s and is known a ‘rockers port’.

Relive the glory of Malaysian rock and get tickets at Search Rockstation in Campbell Shopping Complex or online via www.fenomenasearch.com. Ticket prices range between RM88 (sold out), RM198 and RM298. – The Vibes, May 14, 2022
