WHEN the Emmy nominations were revealed on Tuesday, Netflix show Stranger Things bagged 13 nominations.

The hit sci-fi series is in its fourth season and was released in two parts. Volume 1 (made up of seven episodes) began streaming in May, and Volume 2 is made up of a two-part finale.

Created by the Duffer brothers, the show this season was nominated for – among others – Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, Outstanding Music Supervision (which brought back Kate Bush’s 1985 hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ up the charts).

Despite the many nominations, none of the Stranger Things’ actors were recognised, reported BuzzFeed News.

The show’s stars comprise Millie Bobby Brown as Jane ‘Eleven’ Hopper, Sadie Sink as Maz Mayfield, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, as well as many others.

On social media, fans have voiced their disappointment at the actors’ apparently being “snubbed” for their performances in Season 4: Volume 1, especially Brown, McLaughlin, Matarazzo and Sink. Volume 2 was not eligible for Emmy nomination as it was released after the submission cutoff.

Fans went so far as to say that Sink was “robbed” of her recognition, pointing to her performance in ‘Dear Billy’. The episode is listed as one of the highest rated of the series by IMDb.

Max has been called the “standout character” of the season by critics and fans alike for the episode. This explains the indignation they feel at her not being nominated for an Emmy.

One person tweeted that “Sadie deserved supporting actress” nomination.

Many believed the young actress had been unfairly snubbed, when other aspects of the episode were recognised. They also called out the Emmys for snubbing Brown, who they felt was excellent in many important scenes. – The Vibes, July 14, 2022
