A DEADLY set shooting on the production of Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ last October saw the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while injuring director Joel Souza. Since then, investigations have been ongoing on the exact circumstances that led to the tragic accident.

New forensic evidence by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has concluded that the firearm that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of 'Rust' could not have fired “without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional.”

According to the report obtained by ABC News, the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger.” Alec Baldwin, the star, and producer of the production was holding the firearm at the time of the incident last October.

Since then, Baldwin has gone on record stating that he was under the impression that he was holding a “cold gun” which is a term used to indicate a weapon without live ammunition.

The FBI’s conclusion is in direct opposition to Baldwin’s previous statements in which he maintains that he did not pull the trigger on the gun.

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos last December, the actor stated that “the trigger was not pulled. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Never.”

The forensic evidence in the report clearly states that the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger” with the hammer in the quarter-cocked or half-cocked position.

With a fully cocked hammer, the gun could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional.” The incident took place on the outskirts of Sante Fe while Baldwin was rehearsing a scene.

At the time it occurred, the actor was practicing how to draw a revolver and point it at the camera.

The FBI made the conclusions in the report after performing accidental discharge tests with a single-action .45 Colt caliber F.lli Pietta, the exact same model of the revolver involved in the incident.

The FBI completed its ballistics analysis of evidence in the fatal shooting on Thursday. Detectives in charge of the case have been waiting for the FBI analysis before forwarding it to the prosecutors for consideration of potential charges.

The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, which performs coroner functions in the state, completed its report on Wednesday after receiving the results of the FBI analysis, concluding that Hutchins’ death was an accident.

Representatives for Baldwin were not immediately available for comment. – The Vibes, August 16, 2022
