COUNTRY singer Lyia Meta has come out tops at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards.
Lyia won the female vocalist of the year (her second year in a row) and the performance of the year, reported Free Malaysia Today.
The awards ceremony was held over the weekend in Marshall, Texas.
In a Facebook post recently, Lyia said that all performers received an official Congressional Certificated of Superlative Achievement Recognition presented and signed by US Congressman Louie Gohmert.
"So... on the 3rd day of competitive performances from artists from 15 countries, I took the stage and performed my 4 song set.
"I did 2 covers and 2 originals," she wrote.
"I'm grateful..always... because it took me forever to get here and although I know I have a long way to go, it is always nice knowing I am appreciated," concluded Lyia.
Her performance was accompanied by the Texas Sounds International Country Music Band. Her husband Zack played rhythm guitar.
Lyia's victory comes amid reports that she was not supported in her home country.
Her music does not get much airtime here. While she was also nominated for the awards in Texas last year, Lyia was unable to fly out as she did not receive financial assistance from the tourism, arts and culture ministry.
Yet through a pre-recorded show, she scooped the female vocalist and virtual entertainer of the year awards.
She self-funded her way to Texas this year by selling her artwork and through donations from her loyal fans.
Meanwhile, Lyia is making her way to Nashville, Tennesse for the Josie Music Awards on October 23 where she is up for the EP and vocalist of the year awards.
It is considered one of the biggest independent music awards, with legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash having performed at the Grand Ole Opry House.
For Malaysians keen on catching her onstage, Lyia will be performing at the Miri Country Music Festival on November 25-26. – The Vibes, October 19, 2022
