BRITISH High Commissioner to Malaysia Ailsa Terry CMG recently accepted the Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) invitation to serve as Patron for CMI Malaysia’s Regional Board.
In accepting the patronage, Terry praised CMI’s dedication to promoting excellence in management and leadership.
“CMI Malaysia’s efforts to enhance professional standards, drive ethical leadership, and foster continuous development within the management community are commendable.
“Their efforts to inspire and develop the skills and quality of the next generation of leaders will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing efforts to strengthen the management profession in Malaysia and enrich the strong education relationship for the United Kingdom and Malaysia,” she said.
Terry will work alongside CMI’s volunteer regional board members, higher education partners, and members to foster the organisation’s mission to increase the number and standard of professionally qualified managers and leaders.
CMI aims to inspire a new generation of leaders and equip them with the skills they needed to manage the country’s public and private sectors.
CMI also announced that the CMI Malaysia Regional Board had named Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak as its new chairman. He takes on leadership of the board as a recognised national expert in management and higher education.
Mustafa was appointed as the vice chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia, a leading management public university in 2010, and served for eight years before being appointed as director-general of higher education.
He served as a leading voice in management and education in universities in Malaysia, France, China, Japan, and Indonesia before he retired from civil service in 2021.
He is one of the first Chartered Companions of CMI in Malaysia and was one of the first members of the Malaysian Regional Board.
“CMI is honoured to welcome Terry as their Patron and look forward to continuing to demonstrate the value of our work in Malaysia.
“We provide our members with opportunities to meet fellow members alongside professional development, connectivity to others across higher education institutions, vocational institutes, government, trade associations and others in Malaysia and beyond,” said Mustafa.
CMI CEO Ann Francke said the organisation was delighted to welcome the high commissioner into the CMI family in Malaysia.
“CMI’s 5,000 strong learner community is growing all the time and I know they will benefit from her guidance and support.
“Our education partners in Malaysia, both universities and training providers, have told us time and time again of the value they see in their partnership with an internationally recognised professional body such as CMI,” she said.
Francke said the decision by Terry to accept the invitation of the regional board of dedicated experts embodies the close ties and shared commitment to education that exists between the UK and colleagues in Malaysia.
“We are so pleased to welcome back Prof Mustafa to our regional board, as our new chairman to lead an esteemed group of colleagues who bring both dedication and a strong sense of public service to the CMI community.
