A NEW subject - Character Education will be introduced in the 2027 School Curriculum which will begin next year, with the aim of further strengthening students' personal and character development.

Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, said the ministry is currently preparing for the implementation of the new curriculum, while at the same time continuing to emphasise the aspects of values, morals and personality that are already contained in the existing curriculum.

“Starting next year, this curriculum will be started first at pre-school and this Character Education approach will be the backbone that will continue to be given full attention in relation to what all educationists desire, closely related to character education," she said during Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, today.

Fadhlina also said MOE is implementing immediate reforms across all 10,243 schools in Malaysia to strengthen student safety and well-being.

She said the initiatives focused on five key areas: - physical and mental health; reproductive and social health education to combat sexual violence and substance abuse; child protection policies; teacher welfare; and student voices

“All State and District Education offices have been mobilised for practical and efficient implementation,” said, adding that the MOE will review progress every 15 days, with senior officials meeting educators and students to gather feedback and ensure measures are effective. - October 16, 2025
