GEORGE TOWN – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students in distance learning programmes (PJJ) have launched a petition following allegations that the management is looking to “restructure” it.

The petition launched on Change.org has so far received more than 3,300 signatures since it started last week.

The alumni and students also started a hashtag #prayforpppjjusm on social media to protest the supposed move.

Based on a statement by the #SavePJJUSM group, it is urging USM to reconsider the “restructuring or decentralisation of the PJJ programmes and for university management to discuss (the matter) with affected lecturers and students”.

“The university management should not take a premature step or hurriedly restructure the programme.”

USM’s distance learning programme is in its 50th year.

It is learnt that the PJJ graduation rate is 20% while the failure rate is 50%. – The Vibes, September 27, 2021
