KUALA LUMPUR – A visit to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Genting Tunnel construction site yesterday has shown the remarkable ingenuity behind the entire megaproject, which is now almost half complete.

At the site, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said development for the ECRL is currently 42.06% complete, in line with plans to complete works by December 2026.

However, the Seremban MP also highlighted that the ECRL project currently faces a tough challenge with the completion of the Genting ECRL tunnel, a 16.39km twin tunnel connecting Bukit Tinggi, Pahang with Gombak, Selangor.

So far, construction for the first tunnel in Genting has begun, with approval to use a tunnel boring machine for the second tunnel obtained in November.

Loke said the ECRL will likely be fully operational in early 2027 and would save travel times from Kota Baru to Gombak by three hours.
