ALL construction work on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project on Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) FT28 towards Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur involving a temporary steel canopy structure has been halted.
Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) as the owner of the ECRL project in a statement announced that construction work in the area has been halted pending a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities following an accident involving a car at about 2pm yesterday in the area.
“MRL has taken note of the incident involving a temporary steel canopy structure on Jalan MRR2 FT28 towards Batu Caves. Based on current information, the driver of the vehicle involved is safe.
“In this regard, ECRL will provide immediate financial assistance to the vehicle owners involved to ease the burden incurred, pending the results of the authorities’ investigation and the relevant claim process,” it said.
MRL also stated that authorities and rescue agencies including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Public Works Department (JKR) and Occupational Safety and Health Department (JKKP) are at the location to carry out further action.
It said the cleaning and removal of the temporary structure had been successfully carried out under the supervision of the authorities.
“ECRL is committed to providing full cooperation to all authorities in the ongoing investigation and ensuring that all safety measures are adhered to.
“Our priority is the safety of road users, the public and project workers. We greatly appreciate the attention and cooperation of all parties regarding this incident and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” it said.
It added that the affected route has now been reopened for public use and road users are advised to be careful and comply with traffic instructions and safety guidelines issued by the authorities at the location.
Yesterday, a female driver escaped unhurt after the car she was driving was crushed by a scaffolding pillar at the ECRL construction project at MRR2 Batu Caves.
According to MRL, the temporary structure used for the Road Under Bridge (RUB) #16 works was reported to have failed and hit a vehicle at about 2pm. - November 19, 2025
