Melaka will play host to the Pre-Launch Ceremony of World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 this June, with over 150 foreign ambassadors expected to attend the landmark occasion in the historic heart of Banda Hilir.

The early celebration, which forms part of the lead-up to the global observance of World Tourism Day in September, will feature a series of vibrant cultural and promotional events designed to highlight the state’s readiness to welcome international visitors.

“We’ve lined up various activities to enliven the WTD celebration, and one of the earliest is the pre-launch ceremony, aimed at explaining the objectives and concept of WTD 2025,” said State Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman.

Speaking at the Telok Mas state constituency Hari Raya open house, attended by Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Abdul Razak said Banda Hilir was chosen as the focal point due to its rich cultural and historical significance.

The event is expected to kick off a series of monthly programmes in the run-up to the main celebration in September, which will also coincide with the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025.

Among the key attractions in the pipeline is the “Rentak Bertandak” showcase, a cross-cultural programme involving neighbouring countries and featuring traditional performances, exhibitions, and tourism seminars.

“This will, in turn, help build excitement for WTD and WTC 2025, while also boosting tourist arrivals to Melaka this year,” he said.

The state government sees the WTD 2025 celebrations as an excellent opportunity to reinforce Melaka’s position on the global tourism map, while strengthening ties with international partners through cultural diplomacy. – April 13, 2025
