PENANG’S first naval city parade in two decades would be held in the Esplanade to mark the 19th ASEAN regional navy chiefs meeting.
The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will host the first time ever ASEAN navies city parade where besides the march pass in white colours, the region's navies would be showcasing their latest naval frigates.
The ships would be anchored offshore from the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal on the island and the public would be given access to visit the ships.
Among the warships taking part, are the KD Lekiu, KD Lekir, KD Kedah from the RMN, RSS Vigour from Singapore, HTMS Krabi from Thailand, Kri Bung Tomo (Indonesia), UMS King Sin Phy Shin (Myanmar), BRP Antonia Lunia (Philippines), KDB Darul Aman (Brunei Darussalam) and VPNS Quang Trung (Vietnam).
The crowd is expected to gather at the Esplanade area near the Penang Island City Council headquarters to catch a glimpse of the frigates.
This event is held to mark the ASEAN meeting of the top regional navy brass.
The event is also held in conjunction with the fourth community outreach programme by the state news bulletin - Bulletin Mutiara.
Meanwhile, the congestion on major roads here began last night when the inaugural CIMB ASEAN Cultural Night Run 2025 @ Penang, 2nd Bridge event.
The event held at the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge (Second Penang Bridge) had caused hours long congestion along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway and the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that some 4,000 participants including state executive councillor Wong Hon Wai took part in the run.
The event was organised by the Malaysian Highways Authority to promote the ASEAN spirit among participants. - August 17, 2025.
