SHARVIN’S mother was left to raise him alone after her husband left them and every morning, she would ride her motorcycle from Dengkil to Shah Alam to work.
She worked there from 8am - 5pm, then as a receptionist at a hotel from 6pm - 1am to make ends meet.
She sacrificed everything for Sharvin, spending 15 hours a day to make sure there was food on the table.
Even when she fell sick, she never complained or sought medical treatment as she did not want to spend money on it.
After completing his SPM, Sharvin worked part-time at KK Mart for RM7 an hour to help his mother.
Every cent of his salary was saved to buy necessities such as clothes, food and some household expenses.
Despite living in poverty, his mother's message remained etched in his heart, "Let there be poverty, but not poverty of knowledge."
That is what motivated Sharvin to study hard until he successfully obtained a JPA scholarship at university.
However, a degree alone does not necessarily guarantee a good future and based on his interest in semiconductors, Sharvin decided to participate in a four-month upskilling program at SIDEC, under the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM) program.
Here, graduates are exposed to practical skills and leadership from international companies, factors that are much needed by today's employers.
Nurul Izzah Anwar is an advisor to SIDEC and is responsible for being a mentor to guide participants, as well as ensuring that they get job opportunities with a starting salary of between RM5,000 to RM6,000 a month.
"In conjunction with Deepavali, Sharvin was finally able to fulfil his promise to his beloved mother," said Izzah, who is the PKR deputy president.
“Amma, I made it. Now it’s my turn to take care of Amma. Sorry for causing you so much trouble. Thank you and I love you always," were Sharvin's words to his beloved mother.
"The mother didn’t expect anything, just that her child becomes a person who is the pride of the family.
