MORE than 700 students from over 20 countries and regions gathered in Hong Kong for a five-day summit focused on economics, business, technology and their impact on society.
The Future Economics Leadership Summit, organised by the World Youth Forum (WYF), was held from Aug 9 to 13.
Students from Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Vietnam and several other countries took part.
The participants worked in teams on real-world issues, with the programme including academic challenges, group projects and presentations.
The summit also featured speakers and contributors from academia, industry and international education.
They included Business Professionals of America chief executive Patrick Schultz, Council for Economic Education chief operating officer Tierney Kraft and partnerships director Alaina Ritchie, as well as Minerva Baccalaureate managing director for international programmes Alison Marie Tanker.
Academics and subject matter experts from institutions including Istanbul Technical University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology also took part.
Other activities included U20 – Youth Voice, Immersion Lab and World Youth Fusion, which focused on discussions, teamwork and cultural exchange.
A separate session brought students and alumni together to discuss their academic paths, personal experiences and involvement in global issues.
WYF said it plans to continue working with schools, universities and industry partners on programmes aimed at giving students more exposure to real-world learning. - August 16, 2026
