THOUSANDS of Telegram users in Singapore reported difficulties accessing the messaging app on the morning of Sept 8, with similar disruptions reported across several South-east Asian countries.
Reports on Downdetector, which tracks service outages by collating status reports from multiple sources, began rising at around 10.20am, when more than 1,500 users in Singapore reported problems.
The number of reports peaked at nearly 4,000 shortly after 10.30am before falling to about 350 by 11.30am.
Users in other parts of the region also reported disruptions, with complaints peaking at around 10.30am.
At the peak, Downdetector recorded 1,284 reports from Indonesia, 933 from the Philippines, 725 from India, 544 from Malaysia, 530 from Vietnam and 253 from Thailand.
The number of reports began rising again in the early afternoon, reaching more than 2,200 shortly before 2pm before dropping sharply to 279 about 30 minutes later.
According to Downdetector, about half of the reported problems involved Telegram’s app, while 43 per cent concerned messaging and seven per cent involved difficulties logging in.
The reports indicate that the disruption affected multiple aspects of the service, although the cause of the outage was not immediately clear. - September 8, 2026
