FOLLOWING the launch of the #benderaputih social media campaign to help people struggling during the pandemic, the Malaysia Animal Association has started a campaign urging pet owners to raise a red flag outside their homes if they need food for their animals.

According to the NGO, there has been an increase in pets being abandoned by owners who are unable to feed them anymore, as part of the pressures affecting many people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“These cats and dogs are part of the family. So it is disheartening to see these pets out on the street looking for food,” Malaysia Animal Association president, Arie Dwi Andika said in a statement.

He pleads with the public to keep a lookout for their neighbours’ pets and to check whether they have enough food.

“Such awareness is vital to overcome this problem of pets being abandoned and at the same time to curb cruelty to animals,” he added. – The Vibes, July 1, 2021
