MENTAL Health Aid Association (Nyawa) is presenting an opportunity for youths to make a change.
Nyawa, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Perdana Fellows Alumni Association (PFAA), will be hosting a virtual mental health policy case competition in which Malaysians aged 18-30 can develop ideas and solutions to address gaps in the country’s mental healthcare, it said in a statement.
Malaysian youths of all backgrounds and disciplines are invited to take part. Apart from the chance to win up to RM2,500 cash prizes, participants also stand to gain valuable experience and skills in this unique competition with distinguished mentors and judges.
The competition will consist of teams of three to six people. It will begin with the release of case prompts on current national mental health issues on November 21. Participants will then be given three weeks of the working period to prepare their submissions.
During this period (November 21 to December 12), there will be virtual workshops on mental health and policy-writing to guide participants.
On December 24, five finalist teams will be announced. These teams will then have a further three-week working period to refine their solutions under mentorship.
Their solutions will be presented live online to a diverse panel of judges – which includes Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha, deputy director for Non-Communicable Diseases MOH and Dr Nurashikin Ibrahim, public health physician, Mental Health Sector MOH – on January 15, 2022. This final round will be live-streamed to the public.
If you are looking to make your voice heard, register at tiny.cc/MHPCC2021. Multidisciplinary team members are encouraged.
Submissions and presentations can be in Bahasa Malaysia or English.
Registration closes at 5pm on November 13. – The Vibes, November 11, 2021
