BANGI – The Health Ministry today revealed some troubling figures related to suicide from 6,955 mental health screenings done through MyMinda.
Its minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa revealed there were a total of 1,315 individuals with suicidal tendencies recorded on MyMinda, the new feature on the MySejahtera application.
Speaking after launching the Minda Sihat Sejahtera Programme here, she said since the launch of the new feature, there have been a total of 6,955 responses.
“From these responses, 2,820 individuals were at risk of depression, 1,271 had symptoms of depression and others were going through anxiety.
“MyMinda consists of mental health screenings, psychosocial education resources and access to support services,” she said.
She said the ministry had only launched the new feature on October 22 and, within the short period, a large number had come forward to assess their mental health status.
“From the figures we diagnosed, we can say that it is very worrying.
“The ministry is now scrutinising the figures based on the age categories and our personnel will reach out to those concerned,” she said, adding that all the individuals were above the age of 18.
She added that the government will take several proactive measures to assist these individuals with their mental health issues and also keep track of their daily progress. – The Vibes, November 1, 2023
