NETFLIX is the perfect place to explore this growing franchise and we are so fortunate to be working with this incredible team!" Netflix continues to focus its energy on video games.

The streaming giant is pursuing its path in the gaming world by announcing the adaptation of popular card game 'Exploding Kittens'.

On the programme? A mobile game and an animated series with, among others, Tom Ellis and Lucy Liu... Nothing short of explosive, right?

Netflix doesn't do things by halves! The streaming platform has announced the launch of a mobile game and animated series based on the cult card game 'Exploding Kittens', which is akin to a card version of 'Russian Roulette' featuring offbeat cat drawings.

"The co-development of a game and animated series breaks new ground for Netflix," said Mike Moon, head of adult animation at Netflix. "Netflix is the perfect place to explore this growing franchise and we are so fortunate to be working with this incredible team!"

To bring this animated series project to life, Netflix has turned to actors who are already well known to viewers. The cast will feature Tom Ellis from 'Lucifer', as well as Abraham Lim seen in 'Clickbait'.

The 'Charlie's Angels' star Lucy Liu will also be part of the game with Ally Maki ('Wrecked', 'Toy Story 4'), Mark Proksch ('What We Do In The Shadows', 'Better Call Saul') and Sasheer Zamata ('Woke', 'Home Economics').

Helmed by showrunners Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman, the animated series 'Exploding Kittens' will tell the story of the eternal conflict between Hell and Heaven with the Devil and God finding themselves on Earth in the bodies of house cats. The series is expected to hit the platform in 2023.

A game at no extra cost

Meanwhile the mobile game, 'Exploding Kittens – The Game', will use the original rules: draw a card while avoiding the explosive kitten card that will make you lose the game.

Netflix has decided to add some surprises with two new exclusive cards: 'Radar', which will help players know the position of the explosive kitten card closest to the top of the deck, and 'Flip Flop', which reverses the order of the cards in the deck.

The mobile game will follow the theme of the series and will allow players to play their favourite characters. A game that will be available in both multiplayer and single-player mode.

Netflix subscribers will not have to pay anything extra to try this new mobile game on the platform that will be "without additional fees or in-app purchases." We'll have to wait until May to try out this game.

"Netflix is the only service that could bring 'Exploding Kittens' to life in both a series and a game," said Matthew Inman, Exploding Kittens chief creative officer and creator of The Oatmeal.

"We actually launched Exploding Kittens on Kickstarter as a weekend project, but our community has been the heart and soul of the company over the past six years. The new series and game will give our fans new ways to connect and interact with the franchise."

Launched on the collaborative platform Kickstarter, the 'Exploding Kittens' campaign raised US$8.7 million in just 30 days from 219,000 donors, becoming the most supported project in the platform's history. More than 18 million games have been sold. – ETX Daily Up, April 20, 2022
