COMING hot off the presses (or whatever the podcast equivalent is) Meghan Markle’s much hyped new podcast series Archetypes premiered on the top spot of Spotify's US podcast charts, deposing long-term podcast king Joe Rogan.
It also went to number one in much of the English speaking world, with top spots in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Archetypes has the lofty goal of speaking to various accomplished women who had to confront different long held tropes to get to their success. The first episode notably features tennis champion Serena Williams and focuses on the relationship between gender and ambition. Markle also chimed in with her own struggles relating to her children.
"I don't ever remember personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambitious, until I started dating my now-husband," the host says, referring to Harry, who makes a brief cameo early in the show.
"And apparently ambition is a terrible, terrible thing – for a woman, that is, according to some."
Rogan, for his part, has held on to Spotify's top spot since signing a record US$200 million (RM894 million) contract with the Sweden-based streaming service in May 2020. This is despite his repeated controversies, including advising young and healthy people that they don't need to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Other podcasts like Banter With Sapnap and Karl Jacobs in September 2021 and Batman Unburied in May also temporarily dethroned Rogan, so expect the same result after the hype dies down. – The Vibes, August 26, 2022
