KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia Public Relations Awards (MPRA), organised by the Public Relations and Communications Association of Malaysia (PRCA), is back with a bang.

During a recently-held ceremony for this year’s awards, two of Malaysia’s icons, Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood, who is founder of Mercy Malaysia, and best-selling artist Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, were honoured.

Dr Jemilah received the PRCA Malaysia Leadership Award 2022 for her exemplary efforts and resolute leadership in humanitarian aid.

Dr Jemilah is known as the driving force that led Mercy Malaysia to be recognised globally with the belief that good governance and inclusive communication are fundamental.

At the same award ceremony, prolific singer Siti was honoured with the PRCA Malaysia Community Award 2022 in recognition of her efforts in promoting unity and harmony among communities through her philanthropic contributions and music.

Her philanthropic deeds to societal causes include setting up a fund called Dana PKP during the height of the pandemic to help frontliners and Malaysians impacted by the pandemic.

The MPRA 2022, held at the Aloft Hotel here, celebrated 38 winners across 15 categories.

The coveted Campaign of the Year Award winner was also chosen from among the Goldwinning agency entries.

“As one of the most prestigious and anticipated events in the industry, MPRA 2022 continues to recognise outstanding achievements and high standards of public relations professionals in the industry,” said PRCA Malaysia president Professor Mohd Said Bani CM Din.

“Public relations is about building rapport with the public. It is about winning the hearts and minds of the people, the customers and the wider audience. This is not just about image building, it is also about building trust, understanding and customer loyalty.”

Mohd Said Bani who is also the founder and managing director of bzBee Consult Sdn Bhd, the integrated Marketing Communications Company which organised the awards and was responsible for its ideation and concept also bagged the most number of awards – two golds, three silvers and one bronze.

Hosted for the 14th time, the MPRA 2022 celebrated the tremendous work of organisations, public relations consultants, and in-house practitioners from both private and public sectors and universities as well as individuals.

Chief judge and honorary secretary of PRCA Malaysia, Stefanie Braukmann, said that recognising the most outstanding and inspiring work in public relations across multiple industries and categories, the MPRAs are kept relevant by continuously updating their award categories in line with current industry trends.

“This year, we introduced several new categories to reflect the growing influence of digital and social media in public relations,” Braukmann added.

MPRA has evolved to keep pace with a rapidly changing industry and continues to celebrate the exciting and innovative successes of talented professionals in the communications arena.

Today, MPRA is recognised as one of the highest honours presented in public relations.

The winner of the Campaign of the Year Award was Perspective Strategies for their campaign “#ComeTogether”. The campaign with a specific focus to create a movement towards sexual health education and youth empowerment.

The “#ComeTogether” campaign has successfully rolled out a holistic, refreshed programme. It covers a nationwide survey, forum with partner organisations and influencers, and on-ground workshops.

As in the past editions, at the core of MPRA 2022 is the judging panel. It comprised esteemed senior editors from supporting media houses as well as senior officials and communications practitioners.

Made up of members from both the public and private sectors, they displayed a high level of commitment, professionalism and impartiality to ensure the quality and integrity of MPRA 2022.

The panel of judges was made up of Malaysian Institute of Integrity CEO Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi; Securities Commission Malaysia executive director of Strategic Communications and Chairman’s Office Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hamid; Astro Malaysia’s director of Brands, Communications and Sustainability, Tammy Toh; editor in chief of Petra News and managing editor of The Vibes, Terence Fernandez; head and editor-in-chief of Astro Awani, Ashwad Ismail; Khazanah Nasional’s head of Corporate Communications, Sherliza Zaharudin; and founder of Pay It Forward Cyberjaya, Adit Rahim.
