MUDA today dispelled claims that the conviction of founding president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman would mark the end of the party.
The party’s acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said there were still many capable leaders in the party, which was formed in September 2020.
“We do not have to rely on the former president to lead the party into the future.
“There are many others who can steer the party beyond Syed Saddiq and me,” she told a press conference in Petaling Jaya, today.
She said Muda would be holding its party elections next year for a new mandate from its members.
The Puteri Wangsa assemblyman stressed that the party was not centred on any individual but driven by its ideologies and policies to propel the nation forward.
“We will also be embarking on our rejuvenation agenda to address internal matters, which includes reviewing our membership and the commitment of all members,” she said.
She stressed that Muda will remain the third force in Malaysian politics and this has been its stance even before Syed Saddiq's conviction.
She said since the party’s formation, 80,000 have joined as members, and the party has grown within a short span of time.
“I will be visiting every state over the next 100 days to meet with all Muda leaders and members,” she said.
On November 9, Syed Saddiq was found guilty of four charges of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering involving the Bersatu youth wing’s fund.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced him to seven years in prison, two lashes and a fine of RM10 million, all of which were suspended pending appeal. – The Vibes, November 20, 2023
