KAMPAR MP Chong Zhemin today said PAS Kelantan should stop using Mercedes-Benzes as its official cars.

This, he said, was because the car manufacturer had reportedly donated €1 million (RM5 million) to two organisations in Israel, United Hatzalah and the German Red Cross.

“There should not be favouritism or double standards in boycotting products related to Israel. Are you going to stop using the four Mercedes or not?

“Since you don’t drink Starbucks coffee nor eat at McDonald’s, then stop using Mercedes-Benz also,” he said in Dewan Rakyat today.

Earlier, at an Aid4Palestine event in Cyberjaya, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad urged Malaysians to continue boycotting products linked to Israel.

He said he had tried coffee from local shops and it tasted better than what was found at Starbucks.

“Apart from providing aid, we should also boycott their products,” he said.

The boycott, however, has had a negative effect on local employees of such establishments and delivery riders.

Recent reports said McDonald’s was forced to lay off its part-time employees, while delivery riders faced a drop in income due to fewer orders from such outlets. – The Vibes, November 20, 2023.
