GEORGE TOWN – The Juru immigration depot near Bukit Mertajam has been declared free of Covid-19 cases, after two women and a baby tested positive about three weeks ago.
The last batch of results involving 21 detainees turned up negative, ending the infections there.
It was learnt that the health department had conducted a check on the premises, and no new infections were detected for the past 14 days.
The premises was also sanitised over the past weeks.
The Vibes reported that more than 80 Immigration Department personnel at the Juru depot were quarantined for more than two weeks in November as a precaution when the two women and a baby tested positive.
The department conducted an internal inquiry found that the index cases were two visiting nurses who treated the two women at the depot, that were later found to have been infected with Covid-19.
The women and baby, who were admitted to the Kepala Batas Hospital, were discharged after two weeks and taken back to the depot after they tested negative. – The Vibes, December 15, 2020
