A MAN who died when he was run over by a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at Dato’ Keramat station in Kuala Lumpur last night is believed to have entered the track area of his own accord.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah said cops received an alert regarding the incident at 10.56pm from auxiliary police members at the scene.

“The police had found that the victim, a local man, along with other passengers, were waiting for the train at platform 1.

“When the train was about to stop, the victim suddenly jumped and lay on the track, and was hit,” Ashari said in a statement today.

The media earlier reported that a man died as both his legs were run over by a train after he allegedly fell on the tracks at the station last night.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department’s Kuala Lumpur operations centre said they had received an emergency call on the incident at 9.05pm last night.

Meanwhile, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, operator of the Kelana Jaya LRT line, said the incident, which took place at about 8.50pm, resulted in the emergency system being activated immediately, causing the train to stop for a long time on the track.

Ashari added that the victim was confirmed dead by a medical officer at the scene at 11.13pm.

“The case is classified as sudden death,” he said.
