THE teenager seen in the viral video of an e-hailing driver being attacked has claimed trial to a charge of attempted robbery.

The accused, whose name was withheld for because he is a minor, appeared today in-camera before magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani at the Sungai Petani Magistrate's Court.

The teenager, who lives in  Bandar Seri Astana, had allegedly tried to rob e-hailing driver Lee Ang Hie, 65, in Taman Keladi on November 27. 

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amirul Halimi Md Salleh appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Duratul Ain Mahmud Morshidi.

The prosecution asked the court to set bail at RM4,000 bail but the court allowed bail at RM2,000. The case is fixed for mention on January 17 to allow the teenager to appoint a lawyer.

The charge was framed under section 393 of the Penal Code. The crime is punishable by up to seven years in jail and a fine. – December 3, 2023.
