POLICE shot dead a member of a robbery gang last night at an apartment in Puchong Jaya, Selangor.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the shootout occurred at 10.50pm when police raided a ninth-floor unit in Menara KLH to arrest the suspect.

The suspect is believed to be part of a gang whose member was shot dead on August 20 in Jalan PJS 9/1.

“During the raid, the suspect was alone and refused to cooperate. He fired two shots at the police using a revolver, forcing the police to return fire,” Shuhaily said at a press conference at the scene.

During a search of the apartment, police found two machetes, a fake licence plate, and a bag of counterfeit money. The suspect also had a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees card, which is believed to be fake.

“The suspect’s age, nationality, and other details are still under investigation,” Suhaily said.

The police are intensifying efforts to track down the remaining gang members. The two suspects killed by police are believed to be part of an armed robbery gang active since 2018.

On August 25, police arrested three other gang members who were attempting to rob a Japanese national in a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. – September 6, 2024.
