A POLICE sergeant is being investigated for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old student between September and October last year.

According to reports in The New Straits Times, the 42-year-old suspect allegedly committed the offences in front of a police station and the parking lot of a supermarket in the Perak Tengah district.

The case came to light after the victim told her mother about what happened.

Quoting a source, the report said police have since recorded a statement from the victim under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The victim had gone to the Perak Tengah district police headquarters with a family member.

"Police determined the suspect's identity based on the telephone number which appeared on the victim's handphone.

"The handphones belonging to both the suspect and victim have since been seized by police," added the source.

Perak Tengah police chief Hafezul Helmi Hamzah confirmed that the case was investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and that no arrests were made as of last night.

"The police will wait for a medical report from the hospital. Initial examinations by the hospital showed that the victim did not sustain any external injury," he said. - The Vibes, January 24, 2024
