WITH heavy hearts, policemen in Kapit, Sarawak bid farewell to their comrade, Sgt Jonathan Lambet, who tragically drowned in a boating accident last Thursday.

Reports in Borneo Post said eight pallbearers carried Lambet’s coffin during the ceremony at the Kapit district police headquarters.

The ceremony was attended by police officers, personnel and also civilians.

Among those who paid their last respects were Kapit police chief Rohana Nanu, Song police chief Rowney Michael Jalat, and Dalat police chief Saga Chunggat.

The cortege left the police headquarters about 9.15am for Lambet’s final journey home to Bau, where his funeral will be held tomorrow.

Lambet was among five people who drowned when the boat they were in sank after it was caught in a whirlpool near SK Lepong Baleh in Sg Baleh about 5pm last Thursday.

Only one person, Moses Ngui, survived after he was saved by a passing longboat driver and passenger.

Lambet’s body was found last Saturday at the Kapit Waterfront.

The body of the boat driver, Jack Balan, was found in Sibu, while passenger Amerson John Nain’s body was discovered in Meradong.
