TO speed up response time and beef up patrols, police will use electric scooters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said this follows Sunday's shooting at the KLIA Terminal 1 arrival hall.
The incident left a man seriously wounded and in a coma.
"The state government has agreed to buy the scooters, which would be first such vehicles to be employed by the police in Malaysia.
“We should be getting the scooters soon,” he said, after the handover ceremony for the new KLIA police chief.
On Sunday, a man fired two gunshots in the KLIA arrival hall, believed to be in an attempt to kill his wife.
The target was travel agency owner Farah Md Isa, better known as Farah Cie, who was at the airport to receive her clients returning from Mecca.
One of the bullets hit a bodyguard, after which the suspect fled the scene.
Police have since launched a massive hunt for the suspect, known as Hafizul Harawi, 38, and recorded the statements of 11 witnesses.
Hussein said police did not immediately engage the suspect during the shooting out of concern for public safety. – The Vibes, April 15, 2024.
