“The RMN extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims involved. The management of the remains will be carried out under naval tradition,” the RMN said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said a “doa selamat” will be organised in place of the planned 90th Navy Day celebrations, following the helicopter crash earlier this morning.

“This is also in line with the wishes of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who is the navy’s captain-in-chief.”

He said the bodies of the 10 victims will be brought to Hospital Ipoh, Perak for a post-mortem and funeral arrangements will be made by their respective families.

In a statement earlier, the RMN confirmed that two helicopters, identified as models HOM (M503-3) and Fennec (M502-6), had collided and subsequently crashed in the 9.32am incident at the naval base in Lumut, Perak.
