THE ill-suited and inaccurate remarks of Bruce Gilley, a visiting lecturer from the United States at a programme hosted by a public university in Kuala Lumpur, are disrespectful and unbecoming, MCA said.

Gilley, a political science professor at Portland State University, said in a talk on Tuesday that Malaysia was pushing for a “second Holocaust against the Jewish people”.

“These remarks demonstrate not only a lack of sensitivity towards Malaysia's foreign policy but also a blatant disregard for the country's consistent stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Malaysia's position on this issue has been consistent and unwavering.

"We vehemently condemn the ongoing Israeli attacks targeting the Palestinian people, including the recent airstrike on the Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza during the holy month of Eid,” said MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong.

He said the relentless attacks by Israeli forces against Palestinian land and citizens constitute a clear violation of humanitarian principles and international law.

“The Palestinian people have the fundamental right to self-determination and deserve an independent, sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital”.

Neow said the Palestinians deserve to live in peace and security on their own land. Individuals like Gilley who promote such misleading rhetoric have no right to enter Malaysia.

“We urge the government, particularly the Higher Education Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry, to take swift and decisive action to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he added. – April 25, 2024
