A SENIOR citizen was sentenced to a month in jail and fined RM3,000 by the Kuala Kubu Baru Magistrate's Court after he pleaded guilty to misusing the King's picture on a 4WD vehicle he was driving.
Magistrate Siti Fatimah Talib meted out the sentence against P. Ramasamy, 66, after he pleaded guilty.
Ramasamy was sentenced under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 for malicious intent and was ordered to begin his jail term from the date of his arrest on May 4.
Siti Fatimah said Ramasamy would also serve an additional 10 months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the charges the accused from Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, was found to have driven a Mazda 4WD vehicle with the registration number AFA 6108 in Taman Bukit Bunga Kuala Kubu Bharu.
A police report was lodged on May 4 after a complainant spotted the car with the photos of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Ramasamy, clad in orange lockup attire, pleaded for a lighter sentence, saying he did not know that he was committing an offence. - The Vibes, May 6, 2024
