NUBE accuses human resources minister of spreading falsehoods

THE National Union Of Bank Employees (NUBE) today accused the Human Resources Ministry of spreading falsehoods in connection with a dispute between the Malaysian Commercial Banks' Association (MCBA) and the National Union of Bank Employees.

It said the statement issued by the Industrial Relations Department, which is under the ministry, was intended to mislead the public and hurt NUBE and its members.

"There were several factual inaccuracies and MCBA's misrepresentations are a clear indication of how it operates in extreme bad faith,” it said in a statement.

"MCBA violated the memorandum of agreement (MOA) and acted unilaterally where a bilateral agreement to depart from the provisions of the MOA was required.

"MCBA wants to exert brute force in undermining the spirit of the industrial relations system in the country,"

It said the Industrial Relations Department had stated that Human Resources Minister Steven Sim had not met with the MCBA to discuss festive aid for bank workers.

"In the letter of partial payment of the festive aid to our members, many banks have gone on record to thank the minister.

"In a direct quote by one of the bank's letters to employees, it stated that ‘we would like to record our appreciation to the human resources minister and his team for working alongside MCBA and providing their guidance on the matter’.”

NUBE said there were evident misrepresentations and falsehoods on the part of MCBA, the human resource minister, and the Industrial Relations Department.

"We urge the prime minister to intervene to restore some credibility and integrity to the system.

"The lowe-rincome group has been discriminated against and victimised by banks who are raking in millions and even billions of ringgits in profits," it added. – May 7, 2024
