A MAN was killed after an uprooted tree fell on his car on Jalan Sultan Ismail during a heavy thunderstorm in Kuala Lumpur.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed this, saying that two victims were extricated from the car by personnel.

The department said the falling tree claimed the life of a 47-year-old man but rescuers had safely extracted another man who was injured in the incident.

“The 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and the 26-year-old man who was injured was taken to hospital,” said operation commander Fatta M. Amin.

Meanwhile, Fatta said 17 vehicles were damaged by the incident and a monorail line was also badly hit.

“We received a distress call at about 2.19pm and immediately a team of rescuers were dispatched to the scene.

“27 personnel from Mers and EMRS from Cheras and Hang Tuah were deployed,” he added.

Rapid KL said all Kuala Lumpur monorail services between the Hang Tuah and Medan Tuanku stations have been suspended as the branches had fallen on the line’s tracks.

It advised affected commuters to make use of the LRT and MRT lines to get to their destinations.

“We apologise for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience.” – May 7, 2024.
