A THUNDERSTORM this afternoon uprooted a tree along the busy Jalan Pinang in Kuala Lumpur, causing damage to several cars and motorcycles parked along the road.

No fatalities or injuries were reported so far as authorities rushed to clear the road and assess the damage.

This incident came barely a week after another huge tree was uprooted along Jalan Sultan Ismail, killing a 47-year-old man as he was driving along the stretch. That incident occurred about 600m away from today’s mishap.

Images captured by Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre’s (KLCCC) traffic camera showed the uprooted tree, near Menara Prestige, had blocked all lanes on the road, which had been temporarily closed.

“Our crew is clearing debris and managing the impacts at the affected site.

“We urge motorists and the public to exercise caution and avoid these areas until normalcy is restored,” said a Kuala Lumpur City Hall spokesman.

It was also reported that apart from the uprooted tree, flash floods were reported along Jalan Awan Besar and the KL-Seremban Highway. – May 13, 2024
