MALACCA-BORN Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam has been reappointed as the governor for a second-term.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim presented the letter of appointment to Mohd Ali whose second-term will start on June 4.

The ceremony took place at the palace today which was also witnessed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Also present were Attorney General Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, Chief Secretary Mohd Zuki Ali, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territory) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, Malacca Chief Minister Rauf Yusoh and Malacca state assembly Speaker Ibrahim Durum.

Mohd Ali, 74, was previously appointed as the seventh Malacca governor on June 4, 2020 replacing Mohd Khalil Yaakob.

He was the first Malacca-born politician appointed to the post.

Mohd Ali graduated with a Honours in Bachelor of Social Sciences (Development Economics) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and held the position of Deputy Minister of Health and was Member of Parliament for Batu Berendam constituency from 1995 to 1999.

He was appointed as the ninth chief minister of Malacca, a post he held from 1999 to 2013.

Rauf in his Facebook post congratulated Mohd Ali on his reappointment and said that he, together with the leadership of the state and its people will pray for the state to continue to prosper under the governor’s leadership and guidance. – May 28, 2024.
