THE creation of new electoral constituencies in Sarawak for parliamentary and state seats should be completed by the end of this year.

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, in his latest social media updates, said the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak state government component parties will have to work hard in these new seats.

"By the end of this year, we expect Sarawak to get these new constituencies.

"Will the voters in these new seats vote for us (GPS)? We will have to work very hard.

"When there are more seats, we must provide more quality service to the rakyat," he said.

Sarawak currently has 31 parliamentary constituencies and 82 state assembly seats.

PDP is a component party of GPS, while the others are Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu, Sarawak United Peoples Party and Parti Rakyat Sarawak.

It was earlier reported that Sarawak may get up to 10 new parliamentary constituencies if the redelineation of parliamentary electoral boundaries was carried out thoroughly.

Each of these 10 new parliamentary constituencies will see two new state constituencies created, if the normal criteria is followed whereby every parliamentary seat has two to three state seats. – The Vibes, June 13, 2024.
