TAN SRI Muhyiddin Yassin has engaged a King’s Counsel in his fight against charges of money-laundering and abuse of power, reported The Edge.
The report said Steven Perian will appear with Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik and 13 other lawyers before a five-member Court of Appeal bench on July 9.
The Court of Appeal had earlier set July 9 to hear the former prime minister’s application for leave to review the decision of a previous panel to reinstate the four power abuse charges, involving RM232.5 million, against him.
The court is also set to hear (on the same day) the prosecution’s preliminary objection, filed last April 1, against Muhyiddin’s application on grounds that it was trivial and an abuse of the court process.
Steven returned to Malaysia earlier this year from the UK and joined Messrs Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership.
He was confirmed as a Queen’s Counsel in 2016, and is a distinguished criminal lawyer in the UK. He has acted for the crown in prosecuting various economic offences and financial crimes.

A King’s Counsel is a senior lawyer or barrister or solicitor advocate who has been recognised for excellence in advocacy in the UK. There are close to 2,000 recognised King’s Counsels. – July 4, 2024
