PENANG Deputy Chief Minister Jagdeep Singh Deo has taken leave from the state government due to health issues, according to a source.

A source from Jagdeep's office said the Datuk Keramat assemblyman approached Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to request leave.

"It started from a meeting last Friday. From our discussions, we decided that our boss should take leave,” he said.

Jagdeep is reportedly suffering from eye and knee joint issues for which he underwent surgery.

The source sought to clarify news reports which portrayed that it was the state who ordered Jagdeep to take leave.

Jagdeep is also keen to take leave to meet his two sons, who are returning from the UK on a study break.

"Jagdeep needs to rest and recharge due to his health issues," the source added.

The primary reasons for his leave are health and work-related. If there are other issues, it has not reached a stage which impedes his performance, the source claimed. – July 22, 2024
