THE Cabinet has decided to hold a solidarity rally this Sunday for Palestine to send a clear signal of Malaysia's stance to the international community.

Unity government spokesman, Fahmi Fadzil, said the rally will be at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur at 8pm.

Fahmi, who is also the communications minister, said the gathering will provide a platform for everyone to express their support for Palestine.

"We hope this will send a clear signal to the international community that the Malaysian people's stand on the plight of the Palestinians remains unchanged.

"We will continue to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other government leaders are also expected to attend.

Yesterday, Anwar condemned the murder of Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chairman of the Hamas resistance movement, calling it a heinous act.

“I condemn the killing in the strongest possible terms. The murder was designed to derail ongoing talks aimed at ending the carnage in Gaza that has claimed over 40,000 lives.

“This could only have been carried out in an environment of utter impunity,” he said.

Anwar added that only the heedless and unconscionable would not see the need to intensify pressure on Israel to stop their murderous rampage. – August 1, 2024.
