KUALA TERENGGANU – Continuous heavy rain since last night has caused several villages in upstream Kemaman to be flooded this afternoon.
Chief secretariat of the state disaster management committee, Lt-Col (PA) Che Adam Abdul Rahman, said that 56 residents from 16 families have been affected and placed at the Balairaya Padang Kubu and Sg Mas mosque temporary relief centres (PPS).
“Of that number, 47 people from 13 families are placed at the Padang Kubu community hall and nine people from three families are housed at the Sg Mas mosque.
“Evacuation processes are still being carried out by the rescue team,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Kampung Teladas near Air Putih, located 15 km from two existing PPS, is also flooded and one family has been evacuated.
The water levels in two rivers in Terengganu have reached dangerous levels as at 6.15pm today.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department, through its portal, http://infobanjir.water.gov.my reported that the water level of Sg Tebak at the Tebak Bridge has reached 19.13m, exceeding the warning level of 18.5m, while Sg Nerus in Kg Langkap has reached 21.21m, exceeding the warning level of 21m.
For the record, the first wave of floods in Terengganu occurred from November 17 to 19, while the second wave occurred from November 23 to December 2.
