THE government will soon announce the new chief secretary replacing Mohd Zuki Ali, whose contract ends on Saturday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
“We will announce the name very soon,” he said at the Prime Minister’s Department’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya today.
Earlier in his speech, Anwar said the gathering was Zuki’s final one in his role as chief secretary to the government.
“I am grateful that since my appointment as prime minister, I have been supported not only by Zuki, who is not only a valued friend but also a crucial pillar of public service.
“This assembly marks his last official event as chief secretary,” he said.
Anwar commended Zuki for his dedication, saying Zuki’s advice and insights have been indispensable to public service and the nation.
“I hold deep appreciation and gratitude for him because despite his having served the previous prime minister, he has consistently performed his duties with remarkable professionalism,” he added.
Zuki has served as chief secretary since December 2019. He was expected to retire on in August 2022 but received a two-year contract extension.
He previously worked in the Finance, Education Ministry, Rural, Regional Development, Home, and Natural Resources and Environment Ministries.
Zuki also served at Istana Negara and was the federal secretary of Sarawak and the and secretary-general of the Defence Ministry. – August 5, 2024.
