IBRAHIM Mat Zin, popularly known as Raja Bomoh, is expected to be summoned by the federal territories mufti’s office over the ritual he performed at Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur where search and rescue operations are ongoing for the woman who fell into a sinkhole a week ago.
Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar said Ibrahim had caused public distress.
“His actions also caused misunderstandings about Islam among the people,” he told Free Malaysia Today.
He also said Ibrahim is being monitored by the federal territories mufti’s office under Section 129 of the Syariah Criminal Procedure Act (Federal Territories) 1997 because of his previous ritual practices.
It was reported that Ibrahim visited the sinkhole site yesterday and sprinkled special water that he claimed was sourced from the bottom of a waterfall in Perak.
His actions have been widely criticised, with many saying the rituals contradict Islamic teachings and have embarrassed Malaysia and its people.
Ibrahim was most notably remembered for his ritual involving coconuts at KLIA in 2014 shortly after the disappearance of MH370, which was ridiculed.
In 2017, the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) said his activities went against Islamic principles and were haram while he was also charged under Section 7(a) of the Syariah Criminal Offences Act (Federal Territories) 1997 with insulting Islam. – August 29, 2024.
