SARAWAK police have seized over 100 cannabis plants and drugs valued at approximately RM3.6 million in a house in Miri city.
Sarawak police chief, Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, stated today that two local men, aged 41 and 61, were arrested during a raid at a housing estate.
“The suspects were cultivating cannabis plants in their garden. Investigations revealed they had sourced the seeds online and purchased them via courier.
“The plants were used to produce drugs that were then sold to users,” he told reporters.
Police are currently investigating potential links in this case, which is being classified as drug trafficking.
On August 26, Sarawak police seized around 105kg of syabu, with an estimated street value of RM3.36 million, during raids near Miri city.
Mancha Ata said the raids took place at two houses in the Permyjaya residential area, about 15km north of Miri city.
“We are treating these cases as drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. The amount of drugs seized is the largest so far in Miri.
“We suspect the drugs were shipped into Miri from the peninsula to be distributed across Sarawak.
"The seized drugs could potentially be in circulation with 525,100 users,” he added.
Three local men and a foreign woman were arrested.
