THE RM 118.3 mil Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) integrated operations complex in Miri fronting the South China Sea has been completed.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the complex project was today handed over by his ministry to the Home Ministry.

"The complex will serve as the regional operations centre for the MMEA where security teams will be stationed and play a very important role in safeguarding security in our national waters," said the MMEA.

It will have residential homes, and administrative buildings and will also house patrol vessels to carry out daily surveillance in Sarawak waters.

Particular focus will be on the ocean territory belonging to Malaysia.

Locations, such as the Luconia Shoals, are rich in natural resources and abundant oil and gas resources.
