A 13-YEAR-OLD girl from China was killed in a pre-dawn fire at a housing estate in Miri in northern Sarawak.

Firefighters battling the 3 am fire at two adjoining houses in Grand Park Residential Estate found the charred remains of the girl, said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.

"Our Bomba station in Miri received an emergency alert at 3.08 am and rushed to the scene.

"The charred remains of the girl were found in one of the houses after the fire was doused.

"The victim was identified as Yuan RuoHan of China after firemen inspected the burnt house," said the department.

All other occupants were unharmed.

The charred remains of the victim had been handed over to the Miri police and the cause of the fire is being probed.

The reasons for the girl and her family being in Miri are also being investigated. - November 5, 2024-
